WonderCare Frequently Asked Questions
How does WonderCare work through The 1916 Company? The 1916 Company is not an insurance agency, but we have partnered with WonderCare to introduce customers to the insurance platform, all insurance services are provided solely by WonderCare and its licensed insurance partners. The 1916 Company does not make recommendations, sell, solicit, or negotiate insurance.
What do insurance premiums for WonderCare look like? Generally, premiums are about 1% - 2% of the watch value, but WonderCare can provide a quote where pricing and coverage details are automatically generated based on the watch details. A sample cost chart provided by Wondercare can be viewed below. Please contact your client advisor to be connected directly with WonderCare for a quote.
Why should I buy insurance for my watches? Are my watches not covered under my homeowner’s policy? A typical homeowner’s policy is designed to protect your home and its contents, usually limiting coverage of watches to a maximum amount, typically $5,000 or less. So if your watch costs more than that, it is underinsured with just the homeowner's policy.
WonderCare Insurance will provide "all-risk" coverage for most causes of loss, with no deductible, so you can insure your watches without worry. That means, if you break a watch unintentionally, lose it, can’t find it, or it’s stolen, you’ll be compensated in no time at all, so you can purchase another watch exactly like you had.
Is there a deductible on my policy? No, this is a $0 deductible policy. Adding a deductible is not available.
A watch I purchased has recently gone up in value. Does my policy protect against inflation and value increase? If the market value of a watch covered on your policy increases before a loss, your policy will pay the market value before the loss – up to 150% of your watch’s insured value. This is subject to the maximum amount of coverage of your watch collection.
However, as each watch is unique and values fluctuate over time, we recommend periodically tracking the market value of your watches so that you’re best protected.
Do I need to get appraisals to insure my watches? Appraisals are only needed for watches valued at $100,000 or more. When purchasing your watch through The 1916 Company, and you are interested in WonderCare, this information is shared, although additional information may be needed so that your watches are adequately insured.
Why can’t I just use my homeowner’s insurance to cover my watch? Most homeowner’s policies cap coverage for jewelry or watches at $1,000–$2,500 per item, unless scheduled separately. If your watch is worth more, it won’t be fully protected.
Does watch insurance cover me while I travel? Yes! Valuable articles insurance typically provides worldwide coverage, so your watch is protected whether you’re at home or abroad.
Will I get full value if my watch is lost or stolen? Yes. Valuable articles insurance pays the full appraised or market value of your watch — sometimes even up to 150% depending on your policy.
Can my authorized dealer help with a replacement if I file a claim? WonderCare is a partner of The 1916 Company. If The 1916 Company is opted-in to be notified of the claim, our team can begin working on your replacement right away.
